Originally created to extend Ocean Marine coverage to protect goods as they were
transported across the country, Inland Marine coverage has since evolved to
provide a variety of specialized property and legal liability protection to
businesses.
Property
With regard to property coverage, Inland Marine is most commonly associated with
moveable property and goods carried in domestic transit. For example, a
manufacturer's product being shipped, a museum collection that travels to
various sites, equipment owned by a contractor or mobile medical equipment are
all Inland Marine coverages. In addition, fixed property used in communications
and transportation is also included in the definition of Inland Marine. This
includes computers, bridges and radio/television broadcasting equipment.
Buildings under construction or installation projects are another major category
of Inland Marine.
Legal Liability
Inland Marine also offers legal liability coverage for the property of others
while in your business's care, custody or control. For example, legal liability
for cargo being carried; a rigging company lifting another company's machinery;
or the responsibility of a warehouseman for goods in his custody are several of
the diverse areas that can be underwritten.Inland Marine Insures your valuable equipment, including tools at your place
of business, at job sites, and while being transported. It can also include
coverage on your electronic data processing.
